Did you buy a Macbook Air between June 2012 and June 2013? If so, you could have a faulty flash storage drive. Apple has determined that certain 64GB and 128GB flash storage drives used in the previous generation of MacBook Air systems may fail. Apple or Melrose Mac will replace affected flash storage drives, free of charge.

Is Your Flash Storage Drive Faulty?

If you have a potentially-affected device, visit the Mac App Store’s Updates pane and download MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1. That will run a test of your drive. If it is faulty, you should visit your local apple store or an authorized service provider like Melrose Mac.

Don’t worry if you’re short for time today. The program covers faulty MacBook Air drives for up to three years after date of purchase. However, with any technical problems a loss of important data could occur, so make sure to get it checked sooner rather than later. Otherwise, Apple recommends holding off on installing any software updates and making sure that your backups are up-to-date.

Before you bring your MacBook Air in for service, please back up your data.

Note: This worldwide Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the MacBook Air.
